A short horror game inspired by my nightmares.
Literally made before the day I have school.
About the Game
It is the night before school starts. You have a stack of homework that must be finished before morning, but something is watching you from outside the window.
Manage your anxiety, complete your assignments, and keep an eye on the glass.
Notes
This is in early development nothing is finalized and mechanics, or story are subject to change.
Every single update is done the day before school starts.
Controls
- [E] — Open / Close Homework Notebook
- [SPACE] — Hold to look out the window (Release to return to desk)
- [F] — Use Flashbang (Only while facing window)
- Mouse / Keys [A], [D], [W], [S] — Complete Homework Minigames
- [R] — Retry
- [ESC] — Main Menu / Pause
Credits & Disclosure
- Artwork: 100% Original hand-drawn art and sketches by PravtheLamb.
- Voice Acting: Suku is voiced by Gaymer — a massive thank you for bringing the character to life. The performance added a layer of personality to this game that I honestly couldn't have pulled off with placeholder audio. Go show them some love (if there was a profile to show -.- ).
- Music & SFX: Sourced and edited from Pixabay (Royalty-Free).
- Original Sound Design: Select music cues, sound effects, and creature sfx were created entirely from scratch.
- Fonts: Sourced from FontSpace (Commercially Free).

AI
- Use of AI: AI was used strictly as a coding assistant for code skeleton scaffolding, math logic, bug fixing, and cross platforming. No AI was used for art, or concept design.

Installation Instructions
Windows
- Download DayBeforeSchool-Windows-v1.0.zip.
- Right-click the downloaded zip and select Extract All.
- Open the extracted folder.
- Double-click day_before_school.exe to start the game.
Note: Windows SmartScreen may show a "Windows protected your PC" warning, since the game isn't signed with a paid publisher certificate. Click More info, then Run anyway. This is expected for indie/itch games and is safe to bypass.
IF window's defender blocks it and labels it as a Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.C!ml (or variants like Wacatac.B!ml or Malgent). These are heuristic and machine learning-based false positives that frequently flag legitimate, unsigned, or packed executable files. To bypass, create an excluded folder and download it to that folder. Can also use itch.io's native desktop app which uses a trusted client to download project files.
Linux
- Download DayBeforeSchool-Linux-v1.0.zip.
- Right-click the downloaded zip file and select Extract Here (or Extract All).
- Open the extracted folder.
- Double-click run.sh (or day_before_school) to start the game.
Note: If the game does not open on double-click, right-click run.sh, go to Properties > Permissions, and make sure "Allow executing file as program" is checked.

You should add a volume setting and flesh it out a lil bit more, also i caught those easter eggs "wink" "wink"

Hi, I wanted to try this game, but unfortunately, when I click on the windows option button, it download the linux version of it (DayBeforeSchool-Linux-v1.0.zip), same on the web and itch.io. There might be a problem with files uploads, could you take a look at it?
Yes there are huge dependency issues with all the cross-platforming, am working to fix it. Should be up soon enough.
